Gene Cobb , IBM Corporation
Gene Cobb is a DB2 for i5/OS technology specialist in the IBM i ERP Development Support team. He has worked on IBM midrange systems since 1988, with 10 years in the IBM STG Lab Services group – formerly the Client Technology Center (CTC) in Rochester, Minnesota. When he was with the CTC, he assisted IBM midrange customers with application design and development using RPG, DB2 for i5/OS, IBM CallPath/400 and IBM Lotus® Domino®. His current responsibilities include providing consulting services to IBM I developers, with special emphasis in IBM DB2 Web Query for System i and database modernization. |

DB2 Web Query Overview
DB2 Web Query is IBM's strategic replacement for the Query/ 400 product.
It is a robust, extensible, and productive reporting solution . It will provide reporting and graphing assistants as well as a WYSIWYG "painter". DB2 Web Query will allow you to improve the look and functionality of your existing Query/ 400 reports. Would you like your Query output sent to a PDF file or Microsoft Excel? Would you like to see your existing reports formatted as graphs and charts? All this and more is possible with the new product. You can create new reports with drill down and slicing and dicing capabilities, you can enable your end users on the go to view and analyze their reports in disconnected mode. This session will include live demonstrations of creating reports, graphs and dashboards with this new product. |
DB2 Web Query Tips and Techniques
DB2 Web Query is IBM's strategic replacement for the Query/ 400 product. Because it is a new product, there are many tips, techniques, and best practices that you may not be aware of when using the tool. These tips can be immensely useful when applied to your DB2 Web Query environment. When implemented, they can improve query performance and make the overall DB2 Web Query experience more enjoyable for developers and end users alike. DB2 Web Query: Using Developer Workbench
Developer Workbench is DB2 Web Query's rich client development application. It includes the advanced report creation tool "HTML Layout Painter", an SQL Wizard, an OLAP dimension builder, an advanced synonym editor, the capability to do some data profiling and data quality checking as well as an impact analysis tool. This session will demonstrate many of these features including how to take a six or eight character data field and transform it into a date for use in all your reports. |
Using On Demand Performance Center for DB2 Web Query and SQL Performance Analysis
In this session, we present an overview of the DB2 for i5/OS On Demand Performance Center tools that provide information about the SQL requests generated by DB2 Web Query reports or any other SQL interface. This information incudes query optimization data, query access plans, and SQL performance. Attendees will learn the relative benefits of the various tools, plus they will hear about the performance tool enhancements delivered in the latest release of i5/OS. |
